The Malleable Storyteller

Introducing the first episode in this, the second series of The Amplify Project. Our podcast hosts Patricia Cumper and Pauline Walker are joined by award-winning Nigerian British writer, Yomi Sode.

Yomi Ṣode grew up around music. Once long-listed as one of MTV’s Brand-New Artists, Yomi has been performing for the past 12 years. He navigates the fine line between both Nigerian and British cultures, which can be, at times, humorous, loving, self-reflective and uncomfortable.

When Yomi realised singers and songwriters were storytellers too, this prompted him to stretch his musical ear which led him to being able to identify with a broad spectrum of sounds and genres. In this conversation we learn about his many talents and the journey from MC, to a poet and published author.

“What I'm trying to do in my writing, is explore a language where people just feel held…”
